I have been a Legion member for 32 years and served on the Branch Executive as 1st Vice President and president from 1991 to 1995 then as past president. l also served as Secretary, Treasurer, Service Officer, Sgt at Arms and was again elected as president for the current term.

Branch table officers include:

Bernice Coombs - Immediate Past President

Annually our branch holds a Memorial Services at our monument on July first and November eleventh.
Just this past summer, we had a special service in memory of Queen Elizabeth 11. This service was very well attended by the entire community. Wreaths were placed in Her Majesty's memory by representatives of the District of Harbour Grace - Port de Grave, the town of Upper Island Cove, the Royal Canadian Legion, the RCACC 2797 Army Cadet corps, the Upper Island Cove Fire Department, the Loyal Orange Lodge of Canada, the Loyal Orange Lodge of Newfoundland Labrador, the Loyal Orange Lodge of Upper Island Cove and the Parish of Upper Island Cove
In May we attend the District Ceremony in memory of the Battle of the Atlantic
In August we hosted a dinner in memory of V.J. Day or victory over Japan for veterans of the area. This is a traditional event that has its roots dating back to when those who served came home from the Second World War.

Some of our activities include:
" The sponsoring of the local army Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps.
" Providing scholarships for students who attend St. Peter School
" Hosting a senior club that meets weekly for a fun night of cards, bingo and a lunch
" Over the years we have hosted both ladies and men's dart leagues

We welcome all visitors and newcomers to our branch as well as those who are regular attenders.
